David Baker

Managing Director, Acquisitions

David Baker is a Managing Director in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. In this role, Mr. Baker is responsible for investing in a variety of property types, with a geographic focus on the Western United States. He has been involved in both equity and debt investments in apartments, office, retail, and residential land asset classes, as well as purchases of distressed loan pools.

Mr. Baker previously served as an Associate in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital from 2010–11, during which time he focused on investments in the Eastern United States. Before rejoining the Firm in 2014, he was a Senior Vice President at GEM Realty Capital and was previously with Lehman Brothers Real Estate Private Equity and Macquarie Capital Partners.

Mr. Baker received an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. degree in finance from Tulane University.


Ethan Bing

Managing Director, Acquisitions
Starwood Capital Group

Ethan Bing is a Managing Director in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. In this role, Mr. Bing focuses on corporate acquisitions and direct real estate investments in the United States across multiple sectors. He has been responsible for direct real estate asset investments, corporate acquisitions and purchases of distressed loan pools.

Prior to joining Starwood Capital in 2010, Mr. Bing was a Vice President at Embarcadero Capital Partners and an Associate in the real estate group at Stanford Management Company.

Mr. Bing received a B.A. in economics from Princeton University and an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He is a member of the Stanford Alumni Real Estate Council.


Sam Caven

Managing Director, Acquisitions
Starwood Capital Group

Sam Caven is a Managing Director in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. Mr. Caven is responsible for the origination and execution of acquisition opportunities in both equity and debt across all property types throughout the Western United States. He served an instrumental role in the creation of Starwood Waypoint Homes (NYSE: SFR) which was subsequently merged with Invitation Homes (NYSE: INVH) to form the largest publicly traded single family residential REIT in the U.S.

Prior to joining Starwood Capital in 2011, Mr. Caven worked in real estate investment banking at JMP Securities, where he focused on capital raising, as well as mergers and acquisitions advisory for public and private real estate companies.

Mr. Caven received a B.A. degree in economics with honors from Tufts University.


Mark B. Keatley

Managing Director, Acquisitions
Starwood Capital Group

Mark Keatley is a Managing Director in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. In this role, Mr. Keatley is responsible for the origination, underwriting, structuring and execution of investments in a variety of property types, with a geographic focus on the eastern United States. He has been involved in both equity and debt investments involving apartments, office, retail, condos, industrial, hotels and land asset classes.

Prior to joining Starwood Capital in 2005, Mr. Keatley worked in the acquisitions and development group at Tishman Speyer Properties. Before that, he worked as an Associate on the institutional investment sales team at CB Richard Ellis, following his role as an Analyst in the firm’s financial consulting group.

Mr. Keatley received a BBA degree in finance from James Madison University.


Jared Melnik

Managing Director, Head of Hotel Acquisitions for the Americas
Starwood Capital Group

Jared Melnik is a Managing Director and Head of Hotel Acquisitions for the Americas at Starwood Capital Group. In this role, Mr. Melnik leads sourcing, structuring, underwriting and executing investments in the hospitality and leisure sectors.

Prior to joining Starwood Capital in 2021, Mr. Melnik was a Principal at KSL Capital Partners, a travel and leisure focused investment manager, where he oversaw equity and debt investments in both hotels and leisure operating companies. Mr. Melnik led the implementation of investment strategy and opportunity sourcing, and partnered with portfolio company management to drive operational improvement. Mr. Melnik began his career at Merrill Lynch.

Mr. Melnik received a B.S. degree in finance and international business from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University. Additionally, he is a CFA charterholder.


Steven Ujvary

Managing Director, Acquisitions

Steven Ujvary is a Managing Director in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. In this role, Mr. Ujvary is responsible for residential mortgage debt strategies, with a focus on non-agency whole loans.

Prior to joining Starwood Capital in 2016, Mr. Ujvary was a Managing Director at Macquarie Group, where he was responsible for mortgage and structured credit investments. Before that, he served in a variety of roles in the New York and Sydney offices of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he began his career as an Analyst.

Mr. Ujvary received a B.A. degree in economics and government from Georgetown University.


Tim Abram

Senior Vice President, Acquisitions

Tim Abram is a Senior Vice President in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. In this role, Mr. Abram focuses on sourcing, structuring, underwriting and executing transactions across Europe. He has been responsible for direct real estate investments and corporate acquisitions in the hotel space, as well as the residential and office sectors.

Prior to joining Starwood Capital in 2015, Mr. Abram was an Associate Director in Real Estate, Lodging & Leisure Investment Banking at UBS in London, working across M&A, equity and debt capital markets product groups. Prior to UBS, Mr. Abram worked in the Distressed Debt Group at Citi in London.

Mr. Abram received a 1st Class BSc (Hons) Economics degree from University College London and an MSc Finance with Distinction from the London School of Economics.


Anthony Balestrieri

Senior Vice President, Acquisitions

Anthony Balestrieri is a Senior Vice President in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. In this role, Mr. Balestrieri focuses on development and redevelopments in qualified opportunity zones and is responsible for the origination, underwriting, structuring and execution of such investments in all property types and geographies. In his career, he has been involved in both equity and debt investments involving apartments, office, retail, condos, industrial, hotels and land asset classes.

Prior to joining Starwood Capital in 2019, Mr. Balestrieri was a Director and Head of Acquisitions in Washington, D.C. for MetLife Real Estate. Before that, he was a Director of Acquisitions and Development with Tishman Speyer, and was previously with Akridge and EY.

Mr. Balestrieri received a B.A. degree in finance from George Washington University, which included a year of studies at the London School of Economics. He currently serves as an adjunct professor in the graduate real estate program at Georgetown University.


Andrew Coren

Senior Vice President, Acquisitions
Starwood Capital Group

Andrew Coren is a Senior Vice President in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. In this role, he is responsible for originating, underwriting, structuring and executing investments across all property types, with a focus on Florida and the healthcare sector including medical office and senior housing. He has been involved in both equity and debt investments in apartments, office, industrial, retail, affordable housing, distressed loan pools, and residential land.

Prior to joining Starwood Capital in 2009, Mr. Coren worked in the investment banking division at Goldman Sachs.

Mr. Coren received a B.S. in economics, magna cum laude, from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.


James Fogarty

Senior Vice President, Acquisitions
Starwood Capital Group

James Fogarty is a Senior Vice President in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. He has a primary focus on acquisitions in the tri-state area, including New York City and most recently made the firm’s first investments into Australia where he continues to source opportunities and manage existing assets. Mr. Fogarty was previously based in London and focused on acquisitions for Starwood. Before joining Starwood Capital in 2011, he worked for 5 years in lending across various asset types and acquisitions of office buildings in the U.S.

Mr. Fogarty graduated Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in Real Estate.


Garret Overlock

Senior Vice President, Acquisitions

Garret Overlock is a Senior Vice President in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. Mr. Overlock is responsible for the origination and execution of acquisition opportunities across multiple sectors, with a primary focus on the industrial asset class broadly and a variety of property types within the New England region. Since joining the firm in 2013, he has been involved in both equity and debt investments involving residential, office, industrial, retail, and lodging properties.

Prior to Starwood, Mr. Overlock spent three years in the real estate investment banking practice at Morgan Stanley. Before that, he started his career at the U.S. Department of the Treasury where he was part of the Department’s Mortgage and Housing Markets Group.

Mr. Overlock received a B.A. from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.


Matthew Parrott

Senior Vice President, Acquisitions

Matthew Parrott is a Senior Vice President in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. In this role, Mr. Parrott is responsible for corporate and direct real estate acquisitions in the UK & Ireland. He has been responsible for public and private investments in the industrial, multifamily and office sectors.

Prior to joining Starwood Capital Group in 2018, Mr. Parrott was a Principal at CBRE Global Investment Partners’ European value-add strategy and started his career at Deloitte.

Mr. Parrott received a B.A. degree in Business Economics from University of Exeter.


Francesco Zanella

Senior Vice President, Acquisitions
Starwood Capital Group

Francesco Zanella is a Senior Vice President in Acquisitions at Starwood Capital Group. In this role, Francesco leads the Firm’s investment efforts in the southern European markets.

Prior to joining Starwood in 2013, Francesco was part of Deutsche Bank’s Special Situations team and previously worked as a fixed income trader on Deutsche Bank’s CMBS principal desk.

Francesco holds an MSc in Finance & Investments from Rotterdam School of Management and an MSc in Accounting, Financial Management and Control from Universitá Bocconi, Milan.
